Silverstone, National FF1600 Championship Rounds 1, 2 & 3

Somehow more than 6 months has already passed since the end of my first National Season in September 2017, time flies when you’re having fun!

Qualifying: Not an ideal way to start my weekend. The track was drying from the morning rain until lap 4 when it started to pour again. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to switch the tyres on quick enough, and by the time I had, the rain came. So our position had been decided in the first few laps and we would start Race 1 in 12th out of 32.

Race 1: I had a bad start and ended up slipping down to 14th on lap 1. However the track was partially damp but pretty dry, conditions that I love. I got my head down and worked my way forward to 9th, setting the Fastest Lap of the race on my way.

Race 2: Sunday was dry and I was really looking forward to gaining some ground. The field was incredibly close, the top 9 were separated by just 1.4 seconds across the finish line. I could do no better than 9th, the car felt great but I just couldn’t make any impact on the straights.

Race 3: I steadily worked my way up to 7th, but going for the pass on the inside, into Brooklands I was forced onto the grass and spun round, rejoining in 10th. I had a good battle for 9th, but eventually had to settle for 10th. We were catching the cars in front but ran out of time.

All in all not a bad weekend, consistent finishes and a good haul of points, but ultimately I had hoped for better. I’ll be looking to improve on the results for the next round at Knockhill, Scotland in May.

A huge thanks to the whole Kevin Mills Racing team. A big shout out to my mechanic Alex who wasn’t meant to running me this year, but managed to squeeze in four test days and two race weekends for me! Cheers mate!
