Castle Combe Championship Round 8 & The Carnival Race

15th October 2017

Finished my final race at Castle Combe for 2017 in 2nd🏆🏁

Round 8 Qualifying went really well, just a tenth of a second off pole, the closest I’ve been all year. The car felt mega.

The morning ‘Carnival Race’ Qualifying went equally well with us replicating our strong performance for another front row start.

I made a better start in race 1 than the previous round, but still not fantastic. I found myself in 3rd by turn 1 and eventually dropped to 4th in the race. However it would turn out that the top four of us wouldn’t keep our positions anyway due to supposed track limit penalties. This caused a lot of controversy, none of us agreed with the infringements and it is still unfortunately an ongoing matter. So according to the end results I finished 8th 😒

Looking to make amends for a disappointing result the previous race, next up was the prestigious ‘Carnival’ Race. I made a much better start, probably my best of the season at Combe and kept my 2nd position going into turn 1. I tried to chase down Mike in front, but couldn’t quite reel him in. Over halfway through the race we met a load of oil on track, which caused the safety car to come out. I made a decent restart and would chase him to the line to finish just under half a second off the win.

So much progress has been made between my first race of the year at Combe and the final yesterday. In all, throughout the season at Combe I have achieved two podiums, 5 out of a possible 9 front row starts and have been awarded driver of the day. I’m very pleased to finish 4th in a championship which boasts such a competitive and experienced field of drivers.

A huge thank you to the whole of the Kevin Mills Racing team for the level of dedication put into giving me the best performance all year long! Jim Robertson, you finally got to see me on the podium, super happy you could be there to enjoy it with us! Not forgetting the great pictures you took, thank you! Finally thank you to my Mum, Dad, friends and family for all the support!

The Festival next weekend at Brands Hatch! Super excited for this and looking for some top results!
