BRSCC National Rounds 4 & 5 Oulton Park
15th May 2017
A mix of emotions from Oulton Park. Firstly what an amazing circuit!
As for all the tracks this year, it was my first time there. I made a couple of errors Friday, which meant that my track time was significantly reduced, completing less than 20 laps the entire day.
With a good nights rest and a clear head we qualified P10 in a tightly packed session, improving my time lap by lap.
Come Race 1, I made a decent start, had some good battles going forward and was in 5th gaining on 4th. Unfortunately an error on my part, still learning the track, I just carried too much speed into turn 3 and ended up on the grass. I struggled to get the car started again, but eventually managed to rejoin and made up a few places to finish 16th.
Race 2 was extremely eventful, starting from 16th I worked my way back through the field up to 8th. I then went for a gap around the outside of someone, only to have that gap reduced whilst being alongside them, forcing me onto the grass and then sideways across the track. Somehow I kept it out of the barrier and rejoined in 10th eventually finishing the race in 9th.
Despite the result, I learnt a lot over the weekend, I had a great time at the track and I'm really looking forward to coming back stronger for the next one.
A massive thank you to Kevin, Alex, Shane and Shirl of Kevin Mills Racing for everything this weekend!
Thank you also to Mum and Dad for making it down again to support!
Next outing is a Castle Combe in three weeks time.
