Brands Hatch & Castle Combe Bank Holiday Weekend

28th August 2018

An amazing bank holiday weekend for us at Brands Hatch on Saturday and Castle Combe on Monday. 3 WINS!! 🏆🏆🏆

Very humbled to have won the prestigious Bert Ray Memorial Trophy at Brands Hatch whilst competing in the Champion of Brands.

Brands Report:

A perfect day for the team with a Pole Position, Two Race Wins and Two Fastest Laps. The results are a testament/reflection to all the hard work from the team, and I’m very grateful for it!

We went Pole relatively early on in Qualifying and finished up with a time of 50.02, 3 tenths of a second quicker than 2nd place. It is my quickest time around Brands and is also a Record Qualifying time for the Champion of Brands event! I was actually on for a sub 50 second lap until the last corner where I got held by a bit in traffic, but another day 😁

I came under a lot of pressure at the beginning of race 1 & 2, but I kept my cool to take the Champion of Brands Title in both races, the Bert Ray Memorial Trophy in the second race, and two Fastest Laps. A hugely successful day for me and the team.

Combe Report:

I thought I had the job done in qualifying, we were on pole until a couple of laps from the end when my time was beaten by 0.032 of a second, bumping us down to 2nd in the order. This was the result for race 1, however for race 2 the grid was decided by our second fastest time, this put me on pole for the final race 😁

I didn’t have a fantastic start in Race one, I got drafted badly in the tow, which led to me falling back to 6th by the end of the straight. It turned out to be an epic Formula Ford race though, I worked my way back up to 4th and was chasing down the leaders. Unfortunately just over half distance, another competitor failed to see me and drove across the front of me, I had to retire the car. Fortunately not too much was done, and it was a quick fix for race 2.

Starting on Pole, I retained my position on the run down to turn 1, but things got close behind when a car spun across Avon rise, this brought out the safety car for a lap. I then controlled the pace for the restart till we crossed the line once more to continue on racing. I came under a great deal of pressure for a few laps, but eventually just managed to bridge the gap and break the tow to take my first win at Castle Combe by 1.5 seconds.

A huge weekend for myself and the team. A massive thank you to everyone involved, the whole Kevin Mills Racing team, my mechanic Alex for all the hard work, effort and support.

To my parents, friends and family as always for the tremendous support. 😁

On to Croft Circuit next weekend for the British National Championship! Really looking forward to that!
